Rock 'N Roll!

Hello everyone! Spring is coming, and many people are growing gardens, so I decided to make garden markers. I found some rocks outside, and washed them with warm water and soap. Then I painted them with pictures of the fruits I planted, then I let it dry. Then I went back and painted the rock with waterproof Mod Podge found here. It was a lot of fun and so useful! These are also very cute gifts to give, and also cute just for decoration.

Clear Skin and Shiny Hair

We've all been in that stage where we want "Flawless skin" and "Silky hair" I've been there too. But what are some ways you can achieve these two things? Read on to learn! (Note: Please remember everyone's skin is different; different tips work for different people)

Clear Skin
  • Wash your face every night. I use a vanilla sugar scrub I made myself. The ingredients are: Sugar, any type of oil, (I used vegetable and it actually works great!) and vanilla extract for that delicious smell. I kind of eyeballed it, and I didn't measure anything. Just remember not to pour too much oil. You don't want the scrub to be watery! Anyway, wash your face with warm water every morning and night. This helps prevent your pores from clogging.

  • Apply sunscreen. I know, looking tan is cool now, but in the future it could really damage your skin.  It can lead to  skin cancer and wrinkles. Also, it can lead to flaky skin which can clog pores. (I know, gross!)

  • Moisturize every night. Not only will this soften your skin, but it is believed "Vaseline" can prevent wrinkles! A win-win! Also, remember to wash off all makeup before going to bed.

  • Drink lots of water. I remember people would always tell me this and I would get mad because I thought it would never work. But it really does! And it doesn't even have to be that much. Just a cup a day really helps.

Shiny Hair
  • Wash your hair every other day or once every three days. I know that sounds gross, but washing your hair everyday strips it from it's natural shine. Wash your body but not your hair. (If you have oily hair try using an oil-free shampoo)

  • Do hair masks. Some people also use coconut oil. Coconut oil helps with hair growth and softness. It also has not added chemicals so it is totally safe for your hair!

  • Watch out when going out in the sun. The sun can dry out your hair leaving it dull. Try wearing a cute hat on super hot days!

  • Try to avoid things that are artificial. Don't put every product in your hair. Try some organic hair products. They may be expensive but they are worth it.

Mother's Day Gift Ideas!

Mother's Day is coming up soon! Do you know what your getting your mom? Never fear! I have put together a list of cheap, and easy things to make for your mom. Read on! (Note: I did get these from other blogs. I will link the blogs I took the idea from. Thank you)

Warm Vanilla Sugar Body Scrub:

16 oz Epsom Salt (no fragrance)
3/4 cup carrier oil (safflower oil/kitchen oil works well and is inexpensive)
3 t. vanilla extract

Salt and Honey Scrub with Grapefruit and Rosemary

2 cups olive oil
2/3 cup honey
1/2 teaspoon grapefruit essential oil
1/4 teaspoon rosemary essential oil
3 cups salt
sugar (optional)
red food coloring (2 drops)

Mix the first 4 ingredients together in a bowl. Gradually mix in the salt 1/2 cup at a time. It's easiest to mix with your hands. Wear gloves if you have sensitive skin.

Continue to mix until the oil is mostly absorbed into the grains. It will be very thick and mass together with a bit of oil seeping out. If it's not coming together after several minutes, add salt or sugar in half cup increments until it's a gritty oily paste (you will need more salt/sugar if using kosher salt and less if using a finer grain salt).

Add 2 drops red food coloring and mix well. Add additional essential oil at a rate of 1/4 teaspoon at a time for a stronger fragrance.

Scoop the scrub into little jars with holes large enough to dig the product out by hand. Wipe off the top of the jar before lidding as the salt can rust the metal lid.

To use, scoop a tablespoon of the scrub into damp hands and massage between your hands until you feel a gritty paste. Scrub your face and body in a circular motion until most of the salt crystals dissolve, then rinse.

Kool-Aid Lip Balm

4 Tbs Coconut Oil
3 Tbs Petroleum Jelly (update: we’ve had people recommend shea butter as an alternative!)
1 Tbs Beeswax, shaved
A Squirt of kool-aid (we used the liquid variety but the powder works perfectly as well!)
A Small container (we re-purposed some empty Burt’s Bees containers)

1. Mix first three ingredients in a microwave save bowl.
2. After blended, heat for 1 minute. If you’re doing different colors, separate your mixture into different bowls.
3. Mix in the kool-aid until desired colour is reached.
4. Pour mixture into your containers and pop it into the fridge for an hour or two.
5. Paint the lid of each container to match the colour found within it.
6. Voila! Homemade Lip Balm.

This printable is very cute. You can stick in an EOS lip balm in this paper and give it to your mom. Printable found here

To purchase little containers to hold the lip gloss and scrubs, this is a cute website.

I hope you enjoy working on these projects. Wishing you a happy Mother's Day :)
